I grew up in the Vancouver area with initial training in Engineering and Physics (BASc, MSc) and career in control systems for heavy industry, before joining the BC Genome Sciences Centre and then a PhD in Experimental Medicine at UBC (Division of Infectious Disease). My post-doctoral work was at UBC Microbiology and Immunology, and UBC Critical Care Medicine (Centre for Heart Lung Innovation at St Paul’s Hospital). Currently I am a senior clinical scientist at the BC Centre for Disease Control where my focus is on data science, with research interests in methods for pathogen identification using clinical metagenomics and mass spectrometry. When I am not at work, I love cooking, reading, gaming, and lavishing attention on pets and family.
