The Summer Student Research Program of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in the UBC Faculty of Medicine has been established for the purpose of providing UBC medical students and non-medical undergraduate students in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine with either basic or clinical research experiences, or clinical experiences in laboratory medicine, under the supervision and mentorship of our Department’s Faculty.
The Summer Student Research Program Chair is appointed by the Department Head for a term of 4 years with an opportunity to be reappointed. The Chair and other faculty members, as required, will review applications and select students based on their academic record for the past two years and their proposed research project.
This year we are pleased to offer a total of 4 awards. Each student will receive a total award of $4545 over 8 full-time weeks (35hrs/week) or 16 half-time weeks (17.5hrs/week) of the Summer Term (May – August).
Deadline for applications is Monday, March 6th, 2023 at 11:59pm*.
*Please note that due to COVID-19 opportunities for these awards can only be made available where laboratories are able to either support the students working remotely or have COVID 19 safety plans that will allow the students to safely work in the laboratory.
We have posted the Supervisor Permission-to-Contact list on February 13th, 2023. If you are interested in finding a supervisor this summer, you are encouraged to contact the Faculty on this list by email or phone to inquire about a position that they may have available. Should you be selected by the faculty as an appropriate co-applicant, you will fill out the application form together.
