Dr. Allard is Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Vice-Dean of Health Engagment at the University of British Columbia (UBC). He is also a Cardiovascular Pathologist and Research Scientist in the Centre for Heart Lung Innovation at St. Paul ‘s Hospital.

Born and raised in sunny Vancouver, Dr. Allard obtained a BSc and MD and undertook his clinical pathology training at UBC that included training in renal pathology plus a pulmonary research fellowship with Dr. James Hogg. Subsequently, he undertook cardiovascular research training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham with Drs. Bishop and Anderson. His research program concerns how substrate use by the heart is altered in the setting of pathologic and physiologic cardiac hypertrophy, including delineation of the cellular and molecular mechanisms responsible, and how these alterations influence heart function.

Away from work, he is married with two children and a dog, a committed bike commuter, and an avid “duffer” hockey player.
