SELECT FROM THE FOLLOWING AWARD CATEGORIES
1. EDUCATION
To recognize and encourage outstanding contributions to education in any one or more the following two categories:
A) Undergraduate education (e.g. BMLSc students/ medical students) and/or Graduate and Post-Doctoral education (formal/classroom teaching; mentoring/thesis supervision)
B) Resident and Fellow education (formal/classroom teaching and informal) and/or Continuing professional development- knowledge translation and/or Educational activities in the community setting (e.g. other clinical teaching, community hospitals, other health authorities, etc.)
2. RESEARCH AND DISCOVERY
To recognize excellence in research in any one or more of the following categories: Discovery, Mechanistic, Translational, Clinical, and Population. There are two awards in this category, for:
A) Faculty researchers who are within 7 years of their faculty appointment;
B) all other Faculty
3. CLINICAL SERVICE
This award recognizes distinction in enhancing patient care through laboratory services (clinical innovation, quality assurance, and community outreach etc.). There are two awards in this category, for:
A) Clinical service in academic settings/university hospitals; and
B) Clinical service in other settings (community hospitals, rural settings)
4. MOST VALUABLE PLAYER (MVP) AWARD
Much like the sports MVP, this award recognizes the person who contributed the most in the past year by enhancing the visibility, functioning and overall success of our team (the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine), including administrative and community service.
A) Most valuable player
5. DAVID HARDWICK LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD (Golden Bow Tie Award)
This award recognizes extraordinary members of the Department who have had sustained distinguished careers in the department in the areas of research, teaching and service. ELIGIBILITY for above awards: Clinical and academic faculty members of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Candidates will be selected from top-ranked individuals identified through the annual Departmental Merit review as well as by nomination
A) David Hardwick Lifetime Achievement
6. STAFF SERVICE AWARD
ELIGIBILITY for the Staff Service Award: Employees of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine or other staff who are pivotal to the success of faculty members within our department, located at all sites. There are two awards in this category. They celebrate and recognize the contributions and service of committed:
A) Administrative staff;
B) Technicians and technologists, whose performance enhances the mission of the department to “maintain national leadership and international prominence within the discipline of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine" and helps create a more positive and/or inclusive environment for colleagues and trainees.
7. TRAINEE AWARDS
There are three awards in this category: They celebrate and recognize the following PALM trainees for their contributions to the vitality of the program/department and their excellence in research:
A) A MSc student;
B) A PhD student or candidate; and
C) A Post-Doctoral Fellow, Fellow, or Resident
8. MENTORING AWARD
This award recognizes distinction in mentoring (by faculty, residents, fellows, post-doctoral fellows, research associates, or graduate students) that has positively impacted faculty, staff, or trainees.
A) Mentorship award
9. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT and PHILANTHROPY AWARD
This award recognizes contributions by any member of the department toward engaging with the public/community at large and/or engaging in philanthropic activities that benefit the department, faculty, or university:
A) Community engagement and philanthropy award
